High School Intensive Program

Now in its second year, The Dumbo Arts Center’s summer High School Intensive Program (H.I.P.) will run from July 7, 2010 through August 27, 2010. This program provides a unique learning opportunity for area high school students interested in art-making, community involvement and arts administration. The program seeks to instill civic pride, encourage creative thinking and problem solving and teach new art-making skills and ideas.

This exciting and valuable educational summer experience is lead by a qualified teaching artist and takes place in the Dumbo Arts Center’s gallery. It is a part-time commitment. The curriculum involves art-making, working with professional artists, completing collaborative art projects, going on field trips to area museums and taking part in hands-on arts administration tasks. What the Class of 2009 had to say about H.I.P.:
“I would definitely recommend this program to others because it was a great experience and opportunity for young artists.”

“This internship was a perfect way to meet new people, interns, and artists. It helped me learn how to prepare myself for proposals and art projects in the future and made me better understand what being a working artist means.”
